Volunteer: Donate Snack Packs for Local FamiliesAs our families grow together, so do our organization's needs! Many families come to our spaces to meet with family and play, however, we don't always have snacks we wish to supply them. Help us facilitate an inclusive space by providing snack packs for the families and children that we walk alongside! Please note this is an independent project: you are responsible for purchasing/securing items, packaging them and delivering them. Ideally these snack packs will be allergen friendly for different children age ranges (we can take more than one kind of snack pack) If you need any ideas for what to buy for the families who utilize our services, please reach out and we can help you brainstorm! *We would love drinks such as water bottles or juice to be added to each pack, so kids have something to drink with their snacks! Drop it off at our main office and our staff will distribute to families who need them most! FamilyWise is at 3036 University Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414 and open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.

Volunteer: Make an Impact in Your Community: Mentor a Young Parent!Joining the FamilyWise community as a Bright Beginnings parent mentor is one of the most powerful ways to make an impact as a volunteer, especially now: we have revamped our program and need dedicated community members to support young parents! Mentors meet with young parents in-person biweekly and connect weekly by phone. In addition, mentors help out with meals and transportation for the all-participant meeting every other month. Bright Beginnings is a great opportunity to personally connect with a young parent and create a long-term connection! Once you join, FamilyWise provides all the mentor training and staff support you’ll need. Because young parents need both consistency and stability, we ask volunteer mentors for a one-year commitment to our Bright Beginnings program. Our Mentor Specialist will connect with mentors and mentees individually once a month to provide support to those involved in the program. Participation in Bright Beginnings is free for young parents. In a mentor, we are looking for someone who will: Commit to being involved with your mentee for at least one year Respect individuals’ right to make their own choices in life Have the ability to empathize with another person’s struggles Be able to see solutions and opportunities as well as barriers. Be flexible and open. Pass a background checkFamilyWise is located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and mentors would need to live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Volunteer: FamilyWise On-Call VolunteerThere is no doubt the world has changed since 2020, but something that has increased is volunteerism. Since COVID, FamilyWise no longer has the constant volunteer opportunities we used to. In response to having opportunities but not having the people to help, we want to start a FamilyWise Volunteer on-call directory. Essentially, when we have an opportunity, whether it be something one person can do for an hour or a group can do for a day, I will send it out to the directory and see if anyone is available. FamilyWise will also be restarting the Volunteer Newsletter this summer where opportunities will also be shared. Here is the link to become an on-call volunteer for FamilyWise Services: Volunteer Interest Form
