Purpose: The Warehouse/Food Rescue Driver & Helper volunteers are responsible for processing incoming food deliveries and keeping varieties of food stocked in the food shelf, refrigerator, and freezer.

Description of Role:

The Food Rescue Driver & Helper volunteers partner together to enhance our organization’s ability to directly impact our mission to provide food for those who need it, when they need it. Be a part of sustainability by cruising around Stillwater in the Valley Outreach box truck collecting food donated by local grocery stores to get it into the hands of people who need it most. 

Volunteer  Duties and Responsibilities: 

Drive to local grocery stores to collect food past its marketability -- but not its usability, also known as “food rescue.” Load all food into our box truck provided using a pallet jack, carts, dollies, etc. Unload and weigh all food brought back to Valley Outreach.  Follow food safety guidelines-collecting and documenting temperatures of product and handling and storing product safely (training and all equipment provided).

Volunteer Requirements and Expectations:  

All Food Rescue Drivers must provide their driver’s license and insurance and pass a background check before driving the box truck. Be comfortable driving box truck (no additional licensure required – “it’s like driving a U-Haul!”). Have a familiarity with pallet jacks OR a willingness to learn to use them. Be punctual for your volunteer shift. Follow Valley Outreach Standard of Appearance guidelines. Respect for client confidentiality, consistent with treating clients with dignity and respect. A commitment to racial equity and social justice and willingness to learn and be curious.

Physical Demands:

Able to lift, push and pull up to 60 lbs. repetitively and safely. Able to tolerate walking and standing on hard surfaces for up to 2 hours at a time. Be able to move and bend for loading and unloading food rescue.

Volunteer Requirements and Expectations:

A desire to serve others. Be punctual for your volunteer shift. Follow Valley Outreach Standard of Appearance guidelines. A willingness to follow specific directions. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to work and speak directly with clients throughout the shift. Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor. Physical Demands:

Able to tolerate walking and standing on hard surfaces for 3-4 hours at a time. Able to bend, reach in front, above and below the waist. Some volunteers may be tasked with stocking products in boxes (up to 15 pounds).

Volunteer: Museum Props Care & Prep Volunteer

Help keep our exhibits looking their best by supporting the care, cleaning, and preparation of museum props used in our galleries, the Studio, and our Traveling Exhibits. Volunteers will assist with washing props (by hand and dishwasher), preparing exhibit materials, and cutting supplies for Studio activities. This role is based in the basement workshop props area and supports an ongoing cleaning cycle of more than 2,500 items, especially during travelling exhibit changeovers that occur three times each year. There is always something that needs care, so dedicated time and attention make a big impact.

Volunteers will follow a documented cleaning guide that includes prop introductions, sink tips, and washing techniques to ensure items are handled properly.


Schedule:
Recurring Weekly Shift/s

1–2 volunteers per shift, Wednesday–Sunday, anytime between 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (2-hour minimum shift)


Requirements & Ideal Experience:

Must wear closed-toed shoes in the workshop

Comfortable with hands-on cleaning and prep tasks

Food service or dishwashing experience is helpful

Great opportunity for those interested in a future props or costumes internship

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families. In-home respite consists of going into caregivers’ homes weekly and providing nonmedical care to care receivers. This can consist of playing games, having conversations, doing other activities or just being there with the care receiver. Volunteers are asked to volunteer 3 hours a week. These times are flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you and the family you are matched with. This can be done individually, as a family project, or as a small group.

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families. In-home respite consists of going into caregivers’ homes weekly and providing nonmedical care to care receivers. This can consist of playing games, having conversations, doing other activities or just being there with the care receiver. Volunteers are asked to volunteer 3 hours a week. These times are flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you and the family you are matched with. This can be done individually, as a family project, or as a small group.

Thanks for joining us at Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge! Great River Greening is embarking upon a long-term partnership with the refuge to support their conservation efforts and this event marks our first partnership event together.

Containing over 11,500 acres, Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge is located at the headwaters of the Minnesota River and provides vital habitat for a variety of species, especially ground-nesting waterfowl. 

Volunteers will remove invasive species and haul recently downed wood to open up and support vital outcrop habitat, home to the rare ball cactus, one of three native cacti to the state of MN. Volunteers will also spread native seed once areas have been opened.

 Please note registrants will receive updates on any changes and final event details as the date approaches.

This event is open to all, and any necessary training will be provided.

Day of: Please arrive promptly, allowing time for parking and short walk. Our worksite areas will be adjacent to the Granite Outcrop trail head parking lot. Terrain will be a mix of flat hiking trails and occasional off-trail terrain with a slight rise in elevation.

Safety: Ensuring safety is our highest priority. It is important that event participants wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves to protect against the elements. We recommend dressing for the weather; layers are key.

Partner with the house that love built to provide free haircuts to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House! We have families from across the globe that come, often unexpectedly, to the Twin Cities to receive treatment for their critically ill child(ren). With an extended stay while their child is in the hospital, a haircut for themselves or their other child(ren) is not always at the top of their priority list. As a volunteer, you will provide haircuts for RMH parents and children on a monthly basis or as your schedule allows.

Keep sandwiches cold using a clean cooler or cooler bag and ice packs if transporting on trips lasting more than 30 minutes. For shorter trips of 30 minutes or less in a cool car, a cooler isn’t required—just keep items chilled until departure and go straight to drop-off without making any unnecessary stops.

Opportunity Overview

Join our Marketing & Development Committee and use your skills to help grow our mission! This volunteer role is perfect for individuals interested in marketing, communications, fundraising, nonprofit development, or community engagement. You’ll collaborate with other committee members to support strategic projects that increase awareness, strengthen donor engagement, and support the long‑term sustainability of Reach for Resources.

This is a virtual volunteer opportunity with minimal but meaningful time commitment.

What You’ll Do

Committee members may assist with:

Supporting long‑range fundraising and development planning Exploring new fundraising ideas and activities Offering input on social media, blogs, newsletters, and digital outreach Helping gather stories, data, and content that highlight the impact of our programs Assisting with community awareness and partnership opportunities Recommending website updates and reviewing analytics Providing creative ideas for campaigns, events, and communications Qualifications Volunteers must be at least 14 years old Interest or experience in marketing, fundraising, communications, or nonprofit work (all levels welcome!) Comfortable attending virtual meetings and collaborating by email Completion of our online volunteer orientation training Participation in a screening interview with our Volunteer Manager Time Commitment Meets virtually every other month Meetings occur on the fourth Tuesday of each odd-numbered month Committee members commit to one year of service Benefits Build marketing, fundraising, and nonprofit experience Gain résumé‑boosting skills Make a meaningful impact in your community Grow confidence, communication skills, and teamwork abilities Contribute to mission-driven strategic planning Ready to Make an Impact?

From studying a job description and tailoring a resume to showing up for an interview equipped and empowered!  If you've ever searched for a job, interviewed, or been interviewed, you are qualified and our R!sers would love to connect with you!

Reader Leaders are trained volunteers who facilitate small group reading sessions where stories and poems are read aloud and explored together. These sessions create welcoming spaces where people connect through literature, reflection, and conversation — no prior preparation or reading required for participants.

What You’ll Do

Facilitate welcoming Shared Reading groups in community settings such as libraries, senior living communities, recovery programs, schools, and community centers

Read short stories and poems aloud during sessions

Encourage thoughtful, respectful discussion

Help create a supportive space where everyone can participate at their comfort level

Build connection and community through shared literary experiences

Training and Support Provided

You don’t need to be a teacher or literature expert to volunteer. Reader Leaders receive 24 hours of comprehensive training that includes:

Proven Shared Reading facilitation techniques

Guidance on selecting engaging and accessible texts

Strategies for supporting diverse participants

Ongoing mentorship, resources, and a supportive volunteer network

Duties may include sorting donated items, tagging merchandise, moving tagged items to the sales floor, organizing and refreshing displays, and assisting with other daily operations as needed. Tamarisk, a non profit volunteer organization, attends to the non medical needs of people and their families faced with the end stages of a life-threatening illness. Tamarisk volunteers provide regularly scheduled breaks for caregivers within the family.For approximately 2-4 hours a week Tamarisk volunteers assure the safety and well being of the patient while the family caregiver is occupied or away.  During home visits, Tamarisk volunteers play cards or games, share a movie together, read a book, listen and provide a presence to their companion.  They might prepare a light meal, run errands or bring their companion to a medical appointment.  The companions day to day needs form the agenda of the visit.
