Volunteer: Technology for Seniors - Donate tablets for isolated older adults.

Gifts for Seniors and Tech for Seniors accept in-kind donations by appointment or via mail only (no unscheduled drop-ins). Schedule your appointment today by emailing info@giftsforseniors.org!

The Tech for Seniors initiative is dedicated to getting tablets into the hands of isolated older adults who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one themselves. During the pandemic older adults who were already experiencing isolation suddenly became further challenged to remain connected when they were cut off from the outside world. In best efforts to alleviate the devastating loneliness, Tech for Seniors was launched. Volunteers pre-load donated tablets with video conferencing software, networking opportunities, several mind-occupying apps, and other entertainment options. The in-store purchasing function may also be disabled so less tech savvy seniors are not exploited by scammers.

Tech for Seniors, a program of Gifts for Seniors, offers two programs in pursuit of our mission to alleviate social isolation and loneliness.

Our Partner Tablet Program provides shareable tablets and support programs to aging service providers. The Senior Tablet program provides a tablet and services for older adults who live independently.

This opportunity is available throughout the year!

Volunteer: Calling All Card Makers - Make cards for isolated older adults!

We accept in-kind donations by appointment or via mail only (no unscheduled drop-ins). Schedule your appointment today by emailing info@giftsforseniors.org!

Learn more about Cards for Seniors.

We need your help to provide handmade or handwritten well wishes on greeting cards for isolated older adults. Please sort by season/holiday when shipping.   Project suggestions: Write in large block print letters using lots of color. Inside the card: Share some simple information about themselves (e.g., their favorite hobbies, pets, school, etc.). You can also write a simple poem and greeting inside the card. This makes the handmade card a very personal and thoughtful gift for the older person to receive. “Sign” the back of the card with your first name AND the name of the group, as well as the age of the child or children if applicable. Materials you might use include stickers, watercolors, puff paint, foam craft, feathers, ribbons, colored tissue paper, buttons, and of course, colored markers. DO NOT use glitter or sequins; they fall off. Helpful Hint: focus on joy!

This opportunity is available throughout the year!

Volunteer: Make an Impact in Your Community: Mentor a Young Parent!

Joining the FamilyWise community as a Bright Beginnings parent mentor is one of the most powerful ways to make an impact as a volunteer, especially now: we have revamped our program and need dedicated community members to support young parents!

Mentors meet with young parents in-person biweekly and connect weekly by phone. Bright Beginnings is a great opportunity to personally connect with a young parent and create a long-term connection!

Once you join, FamilyWise provides all the mentor training and staff support you’ll need. Because young parents need both consistency and stability, we ask volunteer mentors for a one-year commitment to our Bright Beginnings program. Our Mentor Specialist will connect with mentors and mentees individually once a month to provide support to those involved in the program.

Participation in Bright Beginnings is free for young parents.

In a mentor, we are looking for someone who will:

Commit to being involved with your mentee for at least one year Respect individuals’ right to make their own choices in life Have the ability to empathize with another person’s struggles Be able to see solutions and opportunities as well as barriers. Be flexible and open. Pass a background check

FamilyWise is located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and mentors would need to live in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Volunteer: Morning Warehouse Volunteer in Rosemount Food Shelf

Are you the type of person who's already up before most people have had their first cup of coffee? Looking for a meaningful way to start your day while making a direct impact in your community?

Our Morning Warehouse Volunteers in Rosemount help prepare the food shelf for a successful day by ensuring shelves are stocked, donations are processed, and incoming deliveries are organized before clients arrive. This early morning shift (6/6:30am-9:30am) offers a chance to stay active, work alongside a small team, and see the immediate difference your efforts make.

Tasks may include checking expiration dates, stocking shelves, weighing donations, organizing inventory, and putting away deliveries. No two mornings are exactly alike, as the work varies based on donations and deliveries received each day.

Volunteers should be able to lift at least 20 pounds. Typically, two to three volunteers work together during each shift, creating a friendly, team-oriented environment. Start your day with purpose and help ensure our food shelf is ready to serve the community!

Volunteer: Help Install Protective Fencing for Bur Oaks in Accelerated Migration Test Plots

Thanks for joining Great River Greening at Fish Creek Natural Area!

Help enhance a 10-year-old bur oak research planting that is helping us understand how trees can adapt to a changing climate. Fish Creek is one of four Twin Cities metro study sites where bur oaks from southern Minnesota/Iowa, local seed sources, and northern Minnesota were planted and monitored.

During this volunteer event, we’ll replace an aging perimeter fence with individual tree cages that provide better protection from deer and rabbits, an important step in the site's ongoing restoration. Register with Great River Greening here https://www.greatrivergreening.org/events-calendar-sign-up

We’ll also share highlights from the Accelerated Genetic Migration of Bur Oak study and discuss how the findings may help guide future restoration plantings and build climate resilience across our landscapes.

Please note registrants will receive updates on any changes and final event details as the date approaches.

This event is open to all, and any necessary training will be provided.

Day of: Please arrive promptly, allowing time for parking and a short walk.

There will be light snacks and extra water available during the event. Please bring your own reusable water bottle. In addition, bring your work/gardening gloves if you have them, if not they will be provided.

Safety: Ensuring safety is our highest priority. It is important that event participants wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves to protect against the elements. We recommend dressing for the weather; layers are key.

Note: By registering online, you will complete the release of liability and photo release waiver. Please let us know at the event if you wish to be excluded from event photography.

Volunteer: Essentials Drive for Bridging (Roseville)

NOW more than ever, we need your help to serve the mission as we empower people to THRIVE in their homes.

OFFSITE OPPORTUNITY!!! Help Bridging Stock the Shelves! Imagine how you could cook a meal without basic kitchen utensils or sleep without a pillow or blanket?

Thousands of local families and individuals face this situation every day.

By hosting an Essentials Drive at your workplace, faith-based organization, or in your community, you can help provide essential items to households in need while raising awareness. Bridging serves an average of 120 households each week.

Location: Off-site at your work, school, faith-based organization, and in your community.

Organize a drive today! Help us stock the shelves so we can serve over 300 people (120 households) every week. Essential Drives allow us to fill the gaps in donations and make sure families have what they need to fully function in their new home.

Coordinator’s Guide is available with full details to get started. New or gently-used items accepted. Promotional support and templates are available for each type of project.

Types of Essentials Drives:

Blankets: All sizes (twin, full, queen, and king) wanted. We need blankets for over 300 people each week!

Towels: All sizes and types wanted. Our goal is to provide one bath towel per person. That's over 13,000 towels each year!

Kitchen Packs: Include a can opener, mixing spoon, spatula, utility scissors, pizza cutter, and a container to hold items. We need over 120 packs per week to give each home a pack.

Cleaning Kits: Include dish scrubber, rubber gloves, sponges, hard surface scrub brush, dust cloths, and a container to hold items (bucket or shoebox size bin). (No cleansers/chemicals please). We need over 120 packs per week to give each home a kit.

Bridging, a nonprofit organization serving the greater Twin Cities, is the largest furniture bank in North America. Through the effective reuse of donated items, Bridging improves lives by providing quality furniture and household goods to those pursuing housing stability.

Driven by volunteers and donations of furniture and household goods from the community, Bridging has furnished over 120,000 homes since 1987.

NOW more than ever, we need your help to serve the mission as we empower people to THRIVE in their homes.

Volunteer: Help Older Adults Stay Independent—Become a Volunteer Driver!

Losing the ability to drive can be a difficult turning point. For many older adults, it means new barriers to getting to medical appointments or handling everyday essentials like grocery shopping. We seek individuals who enjoy driving and, more importantly, helping others stay connected and engaged.

Our mission at Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors is to empower older adults to live healthy, independent, and socially engaged lives. Reliable transportation for medical appointments and grocery shopping is vital to making this possible.

As a Volunteer Driver, you will help older adults by providing rides to medical appointments and assisting with grocery pickup and delivery.

If you're 19 or older, have a good driving record, and own a safe, well-maintained vehicle, we encourage you to join us in supporting our local seniors. A background check and orientation will be provided for all new volunteers.

Volunteer: Help Make Household Tasks, Not Such a Chore!

Support Older Adults in Their Homes—Volunteer with Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors!

At Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors, our mission is to empower individuals aged 60 and older to live healthy, independent, and socially connected lives. Part of this mission involves ensuring that older adults can continue living in safe, clean homes.

Would you consider giving just 1-2 days a month to help an older adult with everyday household tasks? This could involve taking out the trash, doing laundry, changing bed sheets, light dusting, or vacuuming. If you're able, you could also assist with heavier lifting or simple home repairs.

Your support would mean the world to someone who no longer has the strength or mobility to manage these tasks alone. We offer flexible scheduling, a welcoming and grateful community, and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of isolated seniors.

Volunteer: Food Shelf Deliveries to Older Adults

Longfellow/Seward Healthy Seniors (LSHS) and Minnehaha Food Shelf (located in the Minnehaha United Methodist Church, 3701 E. 31st St) joined forces back in August of 2020 with concern for older adults in the community who were unable to pick up their food shelf items in person due to the COVID pandemic.

LSHS continues to provide this food shelf delivery service to older adults in the greater Longfellow neighborhoods, and we are looking for  volunteers who can assist with this program on at least one Tuesday a month.

Volunteers will be asked to work alongside LSHS and Minnehaha Food Shelf staff to choose and pack needed items to be delivered.  The number of clients varies,  but there are no more than 2 delivery stops. This opportunity can be physically demanding, and there is some heavy lifting involved. However, we work as a team to lighten the load.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one Tuesday afternoon a month for 1.5 -2.0 hours.

Volunteer: Youth Tutoring (Middle/High School Age)

Looking to volunteer with youth within our community?PPL is looking for an energetic volunteer with an interest in working with diverse communities to support youth programs at PPL. We're looking at launching a drop-in homework help session and would love to have 1-2 volunteers committed to weekly support the youth on-site. This volunteer opportunity is great for someone who enjoys working with youth and has experience with tutoring Middle School & High School age students. Location: The Williams, 892 7th St E, St Paul, MN 55106Days and times: Thursdays beginning October 1st, 2026. The tutoring time frame will be 4:00-5:00pm during the school year. Volunteers would need to be able to check in before the 4:00pm start time.More information: PPL Youth Tutoring gives students the extra academic support they need to build confidence and succeed in school. Because consistency is an important part of student success, we encourage volunteers to commit to a longer-term schedule whenever possible. Seeing the same tutor each week helps build trusting relationships, creates a stable learning environment, and allows volunteers to make a more meaningful impact on the youth and community they serve.

Depending on the student's needs, volunteers may help with: Homework assistance across subjects such as math, science, english/language arts, social studies, or electives. Reading and writing support, including reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, essay writing, and research projects. Math practice, from pre-algebra and algebra to geometry and other high school math concepts. Study skills, such as organization, note-taking, time management, preparing for quizzes and tests, and breaking larger assignments into manageable steps. Technology support, including navigating Google Classroom, school portals, or educational websites. Encouragement and accountability by celebrating progress, helping students stay motivated, and reinforcing a growth mindset. For a PPL-style after-school tutoring program, volunteers are generally not expected to be teachers or subject-matter experts. The emphasis is often on: Helping students understand assignments rather than giving them the answers. Asking questions that encourage critical thinking. Providing a supportive, patient, and welcoming environment. Building a consistent relationship with students over time.

Qualities we hope to see in a volunteer:
Enthusiasm to learn alongside young people.
Patience, understanding, and flexibility to adapt to each youth’s needs for the day.

Volunteer: Your Career Story Could Be Someone Else's Breakthrough.

You don't have to be a keynote speaker.

You don't have to have all the answers.

You just have to be willing to spend an hour or two helping someone who's trying to break into IT.

We're looking for professionals from all areas of technology—help desk, cybersecurity, networking, cloud, software development, data, project management, and more—to share what it's really like to work in the field. You might:

Conduct a mock interviewAttend a networking eventVisit a classroom to talk about your careerAnswer questions and share what you've learned along the way.

This isn't a weekly commitment or a long-term mentoring program (introverts, we see you). We keep a list of volunteers and invite you when opportunities come up.

You decide what sounds interesting and what fits your schedule (and your social battery).

Sometimes the most valuable thing you can tell a student is, "Here's what I wish someone had told me."

Volunteer: Play Guide Volunteers

Play Guide volunteers rotate through a few different assignments throughout the museum during their shift. These assignments include activities like:

Facilitating fun high energy areas like the Laser maze, Forces and Scramble, greeting visitors, and helping children take turns and play safely.

Assisting in the Art Studio. Greet visitors and introduce the daily activity, help maintain supplies and workspaces, engage visitors in their artwork using museum learning guidelines, and assist facilitators in running special pop-up programs.

Assist with prep work for the galleries and The Studio.  This could include cutting materials such as paper, fabric, cardboard or yarn down to specific sizes, sorting materials, prepping clay, etc.

Play Guide Volunteers choose their shifts online for them to attend Wednesday-Sunday shifts. Each day typically has a morning shift, 10am-1pm and an afternoon shift, 1-4pm. Volunteers also have the opportunity to stack shifts on the same day if they wish to complete more hours for a course requirement in a shorter period or simply wish to extend their shifts. If Play Guide volunteers come as a pair, group of friends, or family, they can be stationed together- providing that there is no need for them to be elsewhere and they are productive together and not distracted.

Volunteer: The most meaningful assembly line you'll ever join

Sometimes the best way to help someone is to make sure the right supplies are ready before they're needed.
