Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver noon meals to older adults and people with limited mobility in the Saint Paul area. You can volunteer solo, with a friend or family member, or with a work or community group for a 1.5-hour shift from 10:30am-12pm on a weekly or substitute basis with weekday morning options on Monday-Friday. You can choose one or more days per week.

Responsibilities include utilizing your own vehicle to pick up meals from our location and dropping off at community members' homes. Routes may include downtown Saint Paul and non-downtown stops in Frogtown, Midway and downtown St. Paul areas. Mileage reimbursement is available. Open to volunteers age 18 and up. Volunteer for our Can Do Woofaroo on Saturday, September 12! This is our annual fundraising walk and festival.

We need help with many different volunteer jobs throughout the day, including Event Setup, helping out with our Paw Punch Game, assisting with serving food, helping out at our Paw Print Art Station, Parking Assistance, Merchandise Sales, and more!

In addition to having a chance to see our dog costume contest, a demonstration of our dogs' skills, and a lot of dogs, volunteers will get a free lunch ticket and volunteer shirt.

The Drawer's mission is to provide warmth and dignity through NEW Socks and underwear. At The Drawer, we believe that something as simple as a new pair of socks or underwear can provide more than just comfort, it can restore dignity, spark confidence, and remind someone that they’re not forgotten and are worthy of respect.

We currently host bi-monthly “Drawer Knob Hours” for volunteers to come in and volunteer either with a small group, a friend/partner, or even just themselves! These hours allow for ten individuals to come and volunteer with us for two hours. Tasks include counting, sorting, and bundling!

Wilder Child Development Center has a commercial kitchen where we prepare breakfast, lunch and snacks for our students onsite and Wilder's day-treatment program across the street. We receive a Wednesday food delivery at our center, and we are seeking support to receive and unload this every week or every other week. We are also looking for help with basic cleaning, inventory, and stocking tasks. This role is very physical and hands on, and it helps us get nutritious food to kids we serve.

We have a couple of residents who would like to attend our Alcoholics Anonymous meetings on Wednesday afternoons, but they need an escort. This means pushing the residents in wheelchairs from their apartments to the community room. The volunteer time is 2-4pm on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. You are welcome to join the meetings or visit other residents during the hour between escorting.

Driver volunteers at our Oak Street location are essential for our weekly supply transfers. Drivers use the RMH passenger van to transport meals and needed supplies from the Oak Street location to our three hospital sites, or to pick up donations. Key responsibilities for Drivers:

Drivers typically commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift, but we are also in need of replacement drivers who can cover driver shifts as needed. Meal delivery trips take place on weekdays from 2pm-4pm. Donation trips will be scheduled on an as needed basis and time is flexible. We ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of one full semester, or 50 hours.

An overview of your position will be provided during your orientation and House tour. Directions and tips as to how to drive the van will be provided at the start of your first shift. Partner with the house that love built to provide free haircuts to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House! We have families from across the globe that come, often unexpectedly, to the Twin Cities to receive treatment for their critically ill child(ren). With an extended stay while their child is in the hospital, a haircut for themselves or their other child(ren) is not always at the top of their priority list. As a volunteer, you will provide haircuts for RMH parents and children on a monthly basis or as your schedule allows.

Each day, we provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner options for RMH families at all five of our locations. At RMH-Oak Street, meal server volunteers support this effort by serving meals to families. Our meal team cares for all meal planning and preparations, and volunteers serve the meal to families as they come through for lunch or dinner (no cooking skills required!). Volunteers may also be asked to assist with cleaning up after the meal and/or packaging leftovers into individual grab-and-go meals. A typical shift could involve:

Meal servers commit to one weekly or bi-weekly shift for lunch or dinner. We serve meals seven days a week, 365 days a year. Typical shifts are 11am-2pm for lunches and 4pm-7pm for dinners. We ask for a minimum commitment of one full semester or 50 hours.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays we also need volunteers for our resident-led Flower Brigade. We would love a couple of volunteers to help with Friday afternoon preparation 3-5pm filling the vases with water and food. On Saturdays we are looking for a couple more substitute drivers to pick up Trader Joe's flower donation and deliver them to Episcopal Homes from 9-10:30am. Also on Saturdays, we need a few more co-leaders to help with the flower arranging and leading the other volunteers 9:30-11:30am. These lovely bouquets are then shared across the campus in our public spaces for all to enjoy!

Do you have a friendly dog, cat, guinea pig, or rabbit that likes strangers and lots of petting?  Are you interested in sharing your special family member with elders 65+?  We would love to have you visit our Episcopal Homes residents in assisted living, memory care and long-term care (nursing homes).  

You can commit to a weekly or month visit or one-time event.  The best time frame for visits is between 9:30-11:30am or 1-4pm; we suggest for a one to two-hour visit.

If you are coming to volunteer more than once, we request that you complete a Minnesota Department of Human Services background check and fingerprinting.  This allows you to volunteer independently, visiting residents in their apartments and rooms.

If you prefer a one-time visit, we will schedule a time when our staff member can be present with you and your pet in one of our community rooms.  

We will also request a copy of your pet's rabies vaccination before your visit.

Do you love Bingo or Crafts and looking for a fun and easy way to volunteer with friends and family? Then we have a great opportunity for you! Our Episcopal Church Home residents are looking for volunteer leaders for Bingo from 1-3pm on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays and for Crafts on Wednesdays 1-3pm.

This opportunity includes gathering residents (mostly pushing them in wheelchairs within the building) from their apartments to the dining areas to do the activity. Then volunteers will be bingo callers, help residents find their numbers and hand out prizes. The Criminal Legal Advocate Intern or Volunteer is responsible for attending court in Stillwater or St. Paul and to relay information about criminal domestic assault cases to the clients involved.

Role Summary 

Advocates at Tubman’s NorthStar Youth Outreach Center in Maplewood connect youth and young adults ages 10-24 of all genders (and their children, if parenting) to basic needs and resources. Youth receive a range of services including individual advocacy, safety planning, and connection to resources at Tubman and partner agencies. Volunteers provide comprehensive support services, assisting with the use of a computer lab and laundry and accessing clothing and food.

Volunteer will be responsible for transporting residents safely and promptly from Tubman East in Maplewood to designated locations in the community including Sun Ray Shopping Center, using a Tubman vehicle.

The Cooks for Kids (CFK) meal program offers volunteer groups a meaningful way to support Ronald McDonald House (RMH) families dealing with a child’s health crisis. The CFK program is a great way for families, friends, work groups, book clubs, faith groups, school clubs and teams (14+ years old) to support the 'House that Love Built’!

Volunteer groups purchase, prepare, and serve buffet-style meals (dinner every night and brunch on weekends) to families dealing with a hospitalized child, and by doing so, have a direct and immediate impact on those families' ability to cope during a very difficult time.

At the Ronald McDonald House inside Children's MN, Minneapolis, your group of 3-6 volunteers will to provide a meal for 60 people.

Donations: While donations are not required to pack at this session, we humbly request them. Each volunteer packs about $50 worth of food and FMSC receives no government support. We can only send meals as we have funding. Nearly everyone is able to contribute something, but we leave the amount up to you. Many groups and individuals make advance fundraising a fun part of their service project. As you're willing and able, you may donate on the day you volunteer (by cash, check or credit card), or online before or after you pack.

At Feed My Starving Children, our mission is to feed all of God's starving children around the world who are hungry in both body and in spirit. But we cannot do this without your help. Will you join us? 

You will pack dry meals called "MannaPack Rice" which is made of four essential ingredients: rice, soy, vegetables, and vitamins.

At our Brooklyn Park Volunteer Center, volunteers assist with sorting, labeling, weighing and packing various food items to meet immediate needs and help feed our hungry neighbors. The projects vary from day to day and volunteers regularly work with fresh produce, dry goods, bread, and other food donations. This volunteer position requires volunteers to be able to twist and bend down, stand for the duration of their shift, and lift up to 5 pounds. Some positions require the ability to lift 40 pounds. We do have a limited number of seated positions available; please let us know if you need accommodations.

AccentCare Fairview Hospice is seeking volunteers to assist our team with weekly check-in calls on Wednesday afternoons or Thursday mornings to patients who live at home alone or with loved ones. These phone calls provide valuable support to our patients and loved ones by assessing for symptom management, supplies needed, and medication refills needed before the weekend. These calls have helped improve the overall patient and chosen family experience!

These calls can be at home or at one of our AccentCare Fairview Hospice offices. Experience in technology is highly recommended.

FamilyMeans helps provide after school activities and supervision to youth in the community of Cimarron. This program helps give youth experiences and educational opportunities that they may not get otherwise.

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers to help assist our staff in providing a safe and educational environment for youth to grow. Assisting our staff includes helping supervise youth participants, helping staff set up and run activities and helping with other tasks.

We are currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to help at our Cimarron Kidspace Program. Which for youth, K-5th grade. The programming is 2:30 through 5:30 Monday-Friday. Volunteers do not need to commit to every day for the whole time, but we do ask for a consistent schedule if possible.

FamilyMeans is looking for a small group to help finish up a cleaning project in our basement. This would like sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and potentially other small tasks. This project could be done by an individual looking for a morning or afternoon project or a small group looking for a couple hour or shorter project.  

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers willing to provide in-home respite to families in the Forest Lake area. In-home respite consists of going into caregivers’ homes weekly and providing nonmedical care to care receivers. This can consist of playing games, having conversations, doing other activities or just being there with the care receiver. Volunteers are asked to volunteer 3 hours a week. These times are flexible and can be done at whatever time works best for you and the family you are matched with. This can be done individually, as a family project, or as a small group.

FamilyMeans is looking for volunteers to help with our new group respite program Community Connection in partnership with the YMCA of Forest Lake. This program is designed for people who are in the early stages of memory loss and will give them in fun activities designed just for them. Volunteers will assist in setting up, guiding participants through activities, and will help clean up at the end of the day. This program will run on Tuesdays from 12 pm to 4 pm with volunteers being asked to arrive early to set up and stay late to clean up. We can work with you if you are interested but can’t make every week or can’t be there the whole time.

Volunteer Purpose

·  Must have experience as an instructor or facilitator of fitness or exercise classes; must be willing to adapt programming and accommodate the needs of seniors, particularly Assisted Living residents.

Foster volunteers provide a temporary home for animals that are looking for their forever homes in the Twin Cities metro area. It is an incredibly rewarding experience!

We provide all necessary medical care for foster animals along with a crate, collar and leash, food and a few toys. Foster homes provide love, care, socialization, basic training and help to find the right forever home.

Job Description:               Wishes & More is seeking a passionate and motivated intern to assist the Wish Department in a variety of wish-granting tasks. This intern will have the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector and directly impact the lives of children facing terminal and life-threatening conditions.

Time Commitment:        Weekly commitment of 8-12 hours per week

Responsibilities:

1.      Grant a Wish, which may include:

·         Send and follow up on medical forms

·         Input and make updates to records in the Wishes & More Salesforce database

·         Partake in wish interviews with a seasoned volunteer

·         Prepare budgets for the wishes

·         Collect and compare bids to purchase gifts

·         Create wish trip itinerary packets

·         Make the wish experience more unique and special by planning an “enhancement”

·         Plan a reveal to let the child know their wish is coming true

·         Write and promote stories about the wishes we grant

2.      Community Engagement:

·         Research local events and solicit donations from event hosts and entertainment vendors

·         Foster new relationships by thanking donors and encouraging ongoing involvement

Tamarisk, a non profit volunteer organization, attends to the non medical needs of people and their families faced with the end stages of a life-threatening illness. Tamarisk volunteers provide regularly scheduled breaks for caregivers within the family.For approximately 2-4 hours a week Tamarisk volunteers assure the safety and well being of the patient while the family caregiver is occupied or away.  During home visits, Tamarisk volunteers play cards or games, share a movie together, read a book, listen and provide a presence to their companion.  They might prepare a light meal, run errands or bring their companion to a medical appointment.  The companions day to day needs form the agenda of the visit.  

Manage and oversee the wellness related care for all animals in Safe Hands Rescue.  Ensure all animals are kept up to date medications, vaccinations and tests by running weekly Wellness report.  Perform and fill in volunteer roles as needed. Volunteers typically rotate to cover one week per month.

360 Communities Food Shelves is seeking a volunteer with experience in programming to support the development of a text message reminder system for food shelf appointments. Our organization is currently exploring SignalWire as the messaging platform and is in the final stages of obtaining approval for implementation. This volunteer role will help design, create, and maintain the code required to send automated reminder text messages using client information stored in ClientTrack.
