AARP Foundation Experience Corps is an intergenerational volunteer-based tutoring program that is proven to help children who aren’t reading at grade level become great readers by the end of third grade. AARP Foundation Experience Corps – Twin Cities is hosted by East Side Learning Center. We inspire and empower adults 50 and older to serve in their community and disrupt the cycle of poverty by making a lasting difference in the lives of America’s most vulnerable children.

AARP Foundation Experience Corps is a proven, award-winning program that brings older adult volunteers into schools and community organizations to help kindergarten through third-grade students become better readers. Our unique approach to working with students produces significant gains in reading skills, increased attendance and fewer disciplinary problems. It strengthens the schools and communities we work in. Research shows that when tutors help students with their literacy skills, those children become better readers for life. Currently, one in five Minnesota third-graders is not reading at grade level. AARP Experience Corps Tutors directly address this need by providing one-on-one reading tutoring as well as serving as a caring adult in each of their students’ lives.
