Our staff and trained Reader Leaders facilitate Shared Reading sessions in a wide range of environments, including senior living communities, schools, community centers, and online. Sessions are designed to be welcoming to participants regardless of prior experience with literature, educational background, cognitive ability, or reading confidence. Texts are read aloud during sessions, eliminating barriers related to literacy, vision, language processing, or access to materials. Therefore, we are able to reach communities where access to and engagement with literary and poetic arts have historically been limited.
Unlike traditional book clubs or academic discussions, Shared Reading does not require advance preparation, literacy expertise, or prior reading. Texts are encountered for the first time together, creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where all participants can contribute. The focus is on close attention, thoughtful reflection, and shared meaning-making rather than analysis or performance.
By making literary arts a collective, accessible, and participatory experience, Shared Reading transforms literature into a living, communal art form. It transforms life. Participants frequently report increased confidence, reduced isolation, improved wellbeing, and a renewed relationship with literature.
