The Drawer's mission is to provide warmth and dignity to those in need through the donation of new socks and underwear. Socks and underwear are such a simple and basic necessity, that most do not realize that there are those in need throughout our communities that go without. Socks and underwear are the most needed but least donated items to shelters and human service orgs that try to aid those in tough situations, and The Drawer is proud to make a difference by distributing these needed items so that dignity and warmth is provided and available to all, no matter their circumstances. Our mission is simple, but the impact is great. A donation today will help us continue to create a ripple effect of impact throughout our community, and provide the human right of dignity and the need of warmth to those that know what it is like to not have either. We partner with organizations all over the seven county metro area and western WI to provide the underprivileged with this basic need. Some examples of partnerships that receive donations from us include homeless shelters, women and children shelters, sexual abuse/domestic abuse victim shelters, orphanages, food shelves, social work offices, human service organizations, at risk youth centers, and more. For some women, underwear is not only for comfort. Undergarments can be a gift that gives them hope for healing after trauma, sexual abuse, or domestic violence. A pair of new underwear might not seem like much. But for these women struggling to restore their mental health, underwear gives their self-esteem a much-needed lift. It gives them dignity, the feeling of safety, and the ability to let go of the shame to which they were once subjected. For the MN homeless population, cold weather foot injuries can be life changing with frostbite and possible amputation, not to mention hospital bills and more debt- all of this is preventable through a high-quality pair of winter socks.
