Mission StatementThe mission of African HeritageInc. is to advance the well-being of our children and families.

Organization’s Challenge:

African Heritage, Inc. is seeking support for a key messaging project. They are a volunteer-run organization with four pillars: community, leadership, education, and culture. They offer many signature events in the community, including a back-to-school program, Emerging Student Leaders (college/career readiness), and Juneteenth celebration. Their “Soulful Holiday Village” event in December has attracted audiences from across the Midwest seeking an African American Santa Claus. African Heritage, Inc. offers food at each of these events to address food insecurity. They also govern a K-5 public charter school called The Omoladé Academy. Despite their multiple programs and unique events, African Heritage, Inc. is rarely mentioned or well-understood by external audiences. There is confusion about what they do and who they serve: for example, their logo is a globe showing Africa (so people think they focus on international work), but their target audience is anyone who identifies as Black/African American. Having recently updated their mission and core pillars, they seek key messaging content that clearly articulates who they are and what they offer. They would then use this content to update their website, flyers, and other external forms of communication. Key messaging expertise will help guide future implementation that is done by volunteers.

Potential Deliverable(s):

1. Key messaging content development

Requested Volunteer Skill Sets:
Storytelling, Copywriting, Communications, Content Strategy

This spot is for the Project Lead Role - Project Leads help facilitate the meetings, guiding the team through the agendas, keeping folks on task and conversation flowing, inclusive of all voices. Project leads do not need to have expertise in all aspects of the challenge but rather have strong leadership and facilitation skills. They will also help schedule the scoping call.
