ORGANIZATION: Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

WEBSITEHomepage - Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery (GMCN) is to end child abuse and neglect and create strong, healthy families.

ORGANIZATION’S CHALLENGE:

Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is looking to improve efficiency across their Volunteer Services and Program teams when it comes to data entry, paperwork and systems integration. With tech support, they’d like to explore free solutions to improve their processes and increase staff capacity.

GMCN relies heavily on volunteer support and engages approximately 1,500 volunteers per year. Volunteer operations are managed across various platforms, including Volgistics, Calendly, Microsoft Forms (for QR sign-in/out), Constant Contact, and GMCN’s CRM (Raiser’s Edge). None of these systems are integrated, which causes duplicate data, inconsistent volunteer scheduling and limited access for staff. Although staff have digitized steps of the volunteer management process, the lack of integration across tools and to their CRM requires a lot of manual data entry and record reconciliation. With a team of tech experts, staff would like to review their current tools and processes for areas of improvement and possible systems integration.

If time allows, on the program side, staff would like to create a roadmap for implementing a modern tech system for their client intake process. They’re interested in replacing a handwritten whiteboard with a smart board connected to Apricot, which would allow client information to be updated in real time and reduce duplicate transcription. They’d also like to replace a paper-based intake process with secure, Apricot-connected iPads. As of now, there aren’t budget dollars allocated to this project, but staff are looking for an idea of what a right-sized system would cost their organization. With tech experts, they’d like to document tangible steps to achieving this future goal.

By improving tech processes and integrating platforms, GMCN can better serve their clients and volunteers.
